He received formal education and training in photography, BA in Design (Honours) in Photography, at the University of Technology Sydney. Papathanasopoulos’ works mainly within the moving image and photography. He uses the two mediums to explore and decipher between current social issues, finding these issues and the way society approach them interesting.

In 2019, Papathanasopoulos curated Call It What You Want To, which premiered at 2019 Sydney Fringe Festival. The immersive installation transformed the perception of space and examined the way varying mediums can work in unison to create a platform, in which audience participation was encouraged to activate and reveal the meaning of the installation.

Since May 2020, Papathanasopoulos has been the editor of the Australian music publication, MILKY.
